Train passengers who were on their way from Brussels to Amsterdam last night were detained for hours. The train came to a standstill due to a technical defect near Antwerp, reports the VRT. There were about five hundred people on board.

According to a spokesman for the Belgian railway company NMBS, the so-called Benelux train stranded around 7 p.m. due to a technical problem. At first they tried to solve that problem and that seemed to work, but later a new problem surfaced. That is why the passengers were still taken off the train.

The passengers transferred to another train, which arrived around 11 p.m. Just before midnight everyone was off the stranded train.
