Train collides with car in Brye: two people died

This Thursday evening around 8:15 p.m., two people in a car were hit by a passenger train, near the Brye (Fleurus) level crossing, near Marbais. They both died instantly.

The mayor of Fleurus, Loïc D’Haeyer, confirms: “There was a collision of a train with a car which, in the conditional version, did not respect the crossing lights.” The two people on board died instantly: the vehicle was dragged over several hundred meters from the level crossing to the Marbisoux bridge.

An extrication by the firefighters of the Hainaut-Est Zone is planned, but it is necessary to wait for a confirmation by Infrabel so that the rescuers can intervene safely. An Infrabel technician was dispatched to the scene urgently, and the power was cut on the section of the railway. Railway police were also dispatched to the scene, along with local police from the Brunau area. An investigation was opened to determine more precisely the causes of the tragedy, while the prosecution is also expected on the spot in the evening.

Following the accident, rail traffic was interrupted on line 140 between Fleurus and Ottignies, “probably for the whole night”, says Infrabel. The SNCB will make taxi shuttles available to travelers. The streets are there, always accessible to motorists.
