A 43-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl were killed in a shooting in the capital of Belize, police in the Central American country said.
Initially, the police assumed that the victims were Dutch. But a later police report states that it concerns an Italian woman and a Mexican girl.
The police report states that a man, woman and their two children were eating ice cream with a neighbor girl friend at a playground in Belmopan. After the man greeted the gunman, he opened fire on the man, fatally hitting the woman. When the man fled with the children, the girl next door was also fatally hit.
Police say the shooter has been arrested. Based on an identity card that he was carrying, the police concluded that he was a man with American nationality. There are indications that the family rented an AirBnB from the man in the city, PlusTV Belize reports.
