Italians Roberto Meo Colombo (53) and Fabrizia De Lio (38) were found dead on Tuesday this week after a 36-hour search operation.
Sound the alarm
It was family members who raised the alarm when the couple did not return home by Sunday. This is written by the news agency Jam Press.
Weather conditions made the search very difficult, as it was impossible to use airplanes or helicopters to sweep over the area.

The couple had also not told anyone where they intended to go, or that they were going to be unreachable on their cell phones.
The only reference point the search teams had was the couple’s car, which was parked in the hamlet of San Bernolfo in Italy.
Had to stop the search
After rescue workers had searched through an area higher than 2,500 meters above sea level, the search had to be temporarily stopped due to bad weather.

The couple were eventually found in the snow above Bagni di Vinadio, which is close to the area where the search had been underway.
The dead were discovered by a rescue team that was on its way up to a high mountain area in a helicopter.
Lena (54) goes viral: – Madness!
It is believed that the couple fell about 300 meters while they were hiking. Roberto (53) and Fabrizia (38) had been married for four years – and were keen mountain walkers.
I think they died on Sunday
According to Jam Press, the couple must have been madly in love with each other.
Roberto was the director of a fabric factory in Costigliole Saluzzo, while his wife was a labor consultant. Fabrizia was originally from Busca, and must have known the area well.
The prevailing theory is that the couple died already on Sunday 3 December, when the combination of low temperatures, snow and the high fall would have made it very difficult to survive for long.
Still a mystery
Exactly what happened, however, is still a mystery.

The couple were buried in a joint funeral on Saturday 9 December in Cuneo Cathedral. This is evident from an article in Italian The guide.
Roberto’s remains were sent to the family burial chamber in Pavia, while Fabrizia’s remains are sent to Magliano Apli to be cremated.
