Total Solar Eclipse Will Happen December 14th

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Solar eclipse The total will occur on Monday (14/12) and will be visible in the region South America and Africa.

The eclipse is estimated to last about 2 minutes 10 seconds.

If the weather is clear, people on the southern tip of South America, certain parts of Chile, and Argentina can witness the total solar eclipse fully in person.

In addition, the eclipse will also be partially visible in parts of southwest Africa.

Reported CNET, Saturday (12/12), boats or ships that are well placed in some parts of the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean may also have the opportunity to see this natural phenomenon.

But people’s enthusiasm for watching the eclipse must be stifled by the coronavirus pandemic.

When several countries around the world began to loosen Covid-19 restrictions, countries like Chile have implemented new lockdowns to suppress the spike in new Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, Argentina is starting to relax its travel ban rules, even though the country’s borders are still closed to tourists from non-neighboring countries.

“I’ve been to every continent to see solar eclipses, even Antarctica,” retired US Space Agency (NASA) astrophysicist and eclipse hunter Fred Espenak, told space.com.

According to Space, Espenak alias “Mr. Eclipse” has been running eclipse prediction models while working at NASA, and he currently manages the site. EclipseWise.com and MrEclipse.com.

He said he had traveled to see more than 40 solar eclipses, including total, partial and annular eclipses.

“I made lots of friends from the eclipse, and I met my wife on a trip (chasing) the eclipse,” he said.

Espenak and his wife met on a solar eclipse tour of northern India in 1995. Since then they have traveled together to see many eclipses.

He and his wife also had planned to go to Chile to enjoy the eclipse on Monday (14/12). But he decided to cancel his trip when he learned that the Covid-19 vaccine would not be available in December. The plan was officially canceled this week when Chile announced new Covid-19 restrictions amid a recent spike in cases.

Instead of traveling, Espenak will join other eclipse hunters on a video call to witness the phenomenon together and brainstorm.
