Lučanský is currently hospitalized in a hospital in Ružomberok, where he was suddenly transferred from the prison in Prešov on Thursday. The media originally speculated that he got into a fight behind bars, according to other sources, a catheter in his eye ruptured and he had to have surgery.

However, three independent sources from the hospital, high politics and the National Criminal Agency told Refresher that Lučanský had attempted suicide by hanging.

According to Denník N, Lučanský is suspected of taking bribes in the amount of over half a million euros (13.2 million crowns) to cover the fraud of an already prosecuted businessman. The paper previously stated that Lučanský was also charged in a case in which the police had not prosecuted the nephew of former Minister of Economy Peter Žiga in exchange for a bribe.

Lučanský resigned from the post of police president this summer after the inauguration of Prime Minister Igor Matovič’s office. In 2018, Lučanský replaced Tibor Gašpar as head of the police, who had previously probably also been accused in other cases and whose court sent him into custody.

This year, the Slovak police gradually detained and accused more than a dozen judges of various offenses, including corruption. The former head of the elite prosecutor’s office, the former police leadership, as well as former senior officials, including the former head of state material reserves and the agricultural paying agency, which, for example, pays subsidies to farmers, are also facing prosecution.
