tor kjærvik, Røa-drapet | Tor Kjærvik’s son charged with murder was forcibly admitted after a knife quarrel in prison

At the end of April, VG reported the news that the murdered Tor Kjærvik’s son had been involved in a knife quarrel with a fellow inmate in Oslo prison.

There must have been a butter knife involved and prison guards had to use pepper spray to stop the quarrel.

After the knife episode, the lawyer’s son was forcibly admitted to hospital.

– My client is forcibly admitted to psychiatry by order of the prison health service. The police canceled the last planned interrogation on Wednesday and we agreed that the state of health is such that interrogation is not possible now, writes the star lawyer John Christian Elden in an email to Nettavisen.

Here you can read more about the murder of Tor Kjærvik.

Police confirm cause of death

Elden confirmed to VG that his client was put in a security cell and also said that no one was injured in the knife quarrel.

– It appears to be un dramatic, but the prison must investigate further.

It was in mid-April that the top lawyer Tor Kjærvik became killed in his own home. His own son is charged with the murder in addition to attempted murder of Kjærvik’s cohabitant.

The police seized a pistol on the spot and it was the son himself who called in and reported after the murder. Formally, he is still in custody.

The police have not previously wanted to say anything about the cause of death or how the seized gun can be linked to the son charged with murder.

– The police can confirm that Kjærvik died of gunshot wounds, but do not want to comment on this further as there are still important interrogations in the case, police lawyer Børge Enoksen writes in an email to Nettavisen.

The police stated early on that there are no other accomplices or perpetrators in the case. Although it has not been disputed that Kjærvik was shot.

The son has not clarified the question of guilt.

– There is no doubt that he is the one who shot. But it is not possible to take a position on the question of guilt until the psychiatrists have investigated whether he is guilty, Elden explains.

Had a meeting with the police

During questioning, the son explained himself the motive for the murder, and that it should have a background in the divorce between Kjærvik and the accused’s mother in 1997. Both the divorce and the division of children must have been something he experienced as very difficult.

The mother of the accused said in an interview with Nettavisen, the same week as the murder, that she has tried several times to get help, but that she was not heard.

On Friday, the police held a so-called relatives’ meeting. The offended cohabitant participated in this. She witnessed the murder of Kjærvik and was traumatized and shocked.

Witnesses and other neighbors have told Nettavisen that Kjærvik’s cohabitant ran out of the home and that shots were fired outdoors in the quiet area on Røa, west of Oslo.

– She is still having a hard time, but is being taken care of, without me wanting to go into it further. She was briefed by the police today on things they could say something about. The follow-up from the police is impeccable, says development assistance lawyer Ellen Holager Andenæs to Nettavisen.
