JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A lot power plants new ones that have been built, both belong to PT PLN (Persero) or the private sector, making the current electricity supply excess or oversupply.
The new power plants are part of a program to add new electricity capacity to 35.000 MW from President Joko Widodo ( Jokowi).
Oversupply This electricity is of course a waste and makes PLN’s financial condition bleed. This is because PLN still has to pay for electricity from generators according to the contract, but the electricity is precisely oversupply.
The excess of PLN’s electricity from this generator was revealed in the letter sent Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arifin Tasrif.
Reporting from Among, Special Staff to the Minister of BUMN Arya Sinulingga confirmed that BUMN Minister Erick Thohir wrote Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources to help PLN’s performance.
“Regarding Mr. Erick’s letter to ESDM and BKPM it is true. The Minister’s letter does not mean that PLN is in a bad condition,” said Arya Sinulingga in Jakarta, Thursday night.
He said that Minister Erick Thohir wanted PLN to take advantage of the existing capacity instead of building new generators.
“What the Minister sees is that PLN has already oversupply nIt’s okay if it’s not used and if there’s a new institution, what’s the name, there’s no need to build a new generator because it’s already done oversupply, it’s good to take advantage of the existing ones, “said Arya Sinulingga.

The new generator is a burden
According to Arya, the purpose of the BUMN Minister’s letter was to maximize the capacity of PLN which was already oversupplied.
“So there is no waste of energy. It’s a shame if for example we build a new generator. There will be another industry, building a new generator, while PLN itself is able to meet these needs,” said Arya Sinulingga.
