Tennis player Marie Bouzková said goodbye to the tournament in Charleston in the second round after defeating 6: 4, 5: 7 and 5: 7 with the Australian Ajla Tomljanovicová. Tournament seventeen Bouzková fought a battle of Tomljanovic for almost three hours. In the third set, she still managed to return to the game despite losing 1: 4. At 4: 5, she averted three matchballs during her serve, but two gams later she capitulated.
Twenty-one-year-old Vondroušová last played another tournament in the USA on the hard surface in Miami and last week she fell in the eighth final on Monday. She received a wild card from the organizers at the busy Volvo Car Open in Charleston. In the end, her place in the competition was taken by the lucky loser from the qualification, the home American Whitney Osuigwe.
Petra Kvitová has already had a successful premiere on clay this year in South Carolina, defeating Australian Storm Sanders at the beginning and Danka Koviničová from Montenegro awaiting her in the round of 16 on Thursday.
