Tom Cruise to the ISS? “Would be nice,” said SpaceX CEO Elon Musk


First actor in space

A spokesman for NASA has confirmed to CNN that the actor of countless action films like Topgun and Mission Impossible will reside on the ISS. That would make him the first actor ever to go into space. Cruise (56) is known for doing the stunts in his films often himself. That’s how he dangled In Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol at the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and hung up on it Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation on an Airbus A400.

In recent years, a few short films and documentaries have been shot in the ISS: two IMAX documentaries (one with commentary by Tom Cruise), the science-fiction film Apogee of Fear from space tourist Richard Garriott in 2012 and Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield took one in 2013 video clip on. A real cinema film has never been made in space. Movies like Gravity (2013) and Life (2017) have all been shot in studios.

Nothing is yet known about the film that Tom Cruise will make in space. Deadline does report that the film will in any case not be part of the Mission Impossible series.
