In mid-February, the General Motors concern and its partner UzAvtoMotors announced a plan to resume deliveries of mass-produced Chevrolet passenger cars to the Russian market. Cars were supposed to appear at official dealerships in March, but this has not yet happened. And the fault is not only a pandemic. According to Avtostat, the Uzbek side has not yet completed customs clearance of the first batch of cars, and after that, it will also be necessary to deliver cars to dealers in different parts of the country. The start of sales had to be postponed until at least mid-summer.
UzAvtoMotors is experiencing financial difficulties after the failure of the Ravon brand, created five years ago to replace the Daewoo brand. The situation is complicated by low demand for new cars and forced temporary closure of car dealerships, as well as difficult relationships with dealers due to the supply of Uzbek-made cars that stopped two years ago.
Chevrolet Nexia
First of all, the Uzbek company plans to return to the Russian market the older models of Chevrolet Spark, Nexia and Cobalt: all of them are re-certified last year. Vehicle type approvals are valid until 2022 and allow selling cars under the Ravon and Chevrolet brands. Subsequently, the range can be replenished with more recent crossovers and passenger cars, but their debut will certainly be delayed. At the same time, deliveries of American Chevrolet models (now Traverse, Tahoe and Camaro) will continue, a separate company, General Motors Russia, is responsible for this direction.
