Together with the heroines of the book, a collection of fairy tales about Latvian women “Ours” will be opened / Article / LSM.lv

On August 18, readings, concerts and competitions of the book’s characters will be unveiled “Ours”- a book written by publicist Santas Remere and illustrated by artist Elīna Brasliņa about 50 Latvian women, their life stories and the path to achievements, the representatives of the association“ Ascendum ”informed. –

The opening ceremony will begin on August 17 orienteering game and the competition, which will continue throughout August, while anyone interested will be able to follow the August 18 event live at 19:00 from the Tallinn Street block. At present, “Ours” can already be found on the shelves of the largest Latvian bookstores.

The opening event will include book readings and competitions for spectators, while the musical accompaniment of the evening will be provided by the association “Rahu The Fool”.

The book’s heroines Lotte Tisenkopfa-Iltnere, Alise Zariņa, Inga Gaile and Sandra Kalniete will give readings of “Ours”, while each viewer will have the opportunity to participate in the competition and mention who the characters are by writing their variants in the online comments section. At the end of the evening, three lucky ones will be drawn from all the authors of the correct answers, who will receive a book “Ours” and a set of ten postcards with illustrations by Elīna Brasliņa.

“Ours” is the first book to summarize the achievements of Latvian women, without distinguishing women according to their affiliation to a particular social and ethnic group, era or profession. The stories are written in fairy tale format and are suitable for the whole family, ”explains Ascendum.

At the beginning of the year, the project to publish the book “Ours” received an unexpected response from the crowd financing site “Projektu banka”, raising almost 7,000 euros in donations. The main characters in the stories have succeeded in various fields: art, music, writing, sports, science, politics and elsewhere – both today and in the 19th century. Among the heroines of the book are such women as Aspazija, Aleksandra Beļcova, Džemma Skulme, Valentīna Freimane, Uļjana Semjonova, Elīna Garanča, Vizma Belševica, Alona Ostapenko and others.

The author of the book’s stories is the publicist and cultural journalist Santa Remere, while the author of the illustrations is the artist and children’s book illustrator Elīna Brasliņa.

The live launch of the book will be broadcast with the support of information technology company Accenture and will be followed by books On our Facebook page.

The book “We have” published by the association “Ascendum” with the support of the State Cultural Capital Fund, Riga City Council, “Project Bank”, “Accenture” and “Arctic Paper”.
