Given that the liquidation of the accident at well No. 303 is a complex technical operation, since the flowing gas is burning, the well is located in a sor area, and gryphon formations were observed around the well. Vice Minister of Energy Askhat Khasenov recommended attracting additional forces and resources to eliminate the accident.
After completion of the drilling of inclined wells, a special drilling fluid will be used, which will drown out the burning gas reservoir. Experts do not undertake to predict the timing of the liquidation of the accident, mangystaumedia.kz reports.
– No one can say the exact date of liquidation of the accident. The project well is deep, now we are half way through. We set a goal – high-quality and safe liquidation of the accident and prevention of a second fountain. There are specialists from the Mangistau branch of “Ak Beren”, telemetry, gas logging station, each specialist works within his competence with the enterprise that carries out drilling work. We also connected international experts – the Chinese oil company CNPC and the Polish PM Lukas. Each accident has physical, geological, chemical features, and is considered individually. Today, Buzachi Neft LLP was instructed to additionally develop a plan B, if the measures taken are not successful, – noted Askhat Hasenov.
It is not yet possible to draw conclusions about the damage caused to the environment. Once every ten days, environmentalists take measurements near the fountain. So far, experts state that the emission consists of methane without hydrogen sulfide or other pollutants. After the liquidation of the accident, the gas factor will be identified and the damage calculated. But the well itself after killing with drilling fluid will be impossible to operate.
Earlier it was reported that satellite images indicate a large-scale release of a powerful greenhouse gas at the Karaturun East field. The company developing the well claims that these are hot steam clouds with a negligible content of methane molecules.
According to the latest data, more than 300 million tenge was spent on extinguishing a fire at a field in Mangistau. The oil company hopes that the fire will be extinguished by the end of September.
Recall that at the Karaturun Yuzhny field on June 9 at 03:25, as a result of lifting the drilling tool, a gas-water mixture was released, which turned into an open gas fountain at well No. 303.
