The informateur Herman Tjeenk Willink, appointed this week, will start on Thursday with his assignment to speed up the stalled formation process. The now 79-year-old PvdA member will talk to the parties in order from small to large.
According to Tjeenk Willink he does this because “democracy also means: taking minorities into account”, but also because “they have a fresh view to develop a new governance style”.
Sylvana Simons of BIJ1 will be the first party leader with whom the Minister of State will speak at 9.00 am. Then it is the turn of Caroline van der Plas (BBB), Farid Azarkan (DENK), Kees van der Staaij (SGP), Joost Eerdmans (JA21), Laurens Dassen (Volt), Gert-Jan Segers (ChristenUnie), Esther Ouwehand (Party for the Animals) and Liane den Haan (50PLUS).
The rest of the group chairmen will join Tjeenk Willink on Friday. He is given three weeks to revive the formation process.
The formation broke down two weeks ago when former scout Kajsa Ollongren was photographed with notes under her arm, which included the mention of CDA MP Pieter Omtzigt. Under pressure from the Lower House, outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte admitted that he was the one who had raised the question to fill a ministerial post.
A motion of censure against Rutte was passed all the way across the house and he narrowly survived a motion of no confidence. Various parties, including coalition partner ChristenUnie, said after the debate that they would no longer join a cabinet with Rutte as prime minister.
