Tiger Woods Withdraws from Genesis Invitational Due to Illness

Tiger Woods, the legendary golfer, shocked fans and spectators when he withdrew from the Genesis Invitational due to illness. The news came as a surprise, as Woods had been making his first PGA Tour start since last April. He had shot a one-over 72 during Thursday’s first round, making five birdies and six bogeys. He blamed a mishit on a back spasm. However, during the second round on Friday, Woods looked off according to his playing partner, Gary Woodland. Reports emerged that Woods took multiple bathroom stops, and by the 7th hole, he was done. PGA Tour rules official Pete Dachisen had to cart him back to the clubhouse.

The situation became even more uncertain when an ambulance and two fire trucks appeared at Riviera. Medical professionals entered and exited the clubhouse frequently, causing speculation about the severity of Woods’ condition. Eventually, the fire trucks and ambulance left, followed later by Woods himself. He was driven away by an official in a red Genesis coupe.

To provide clarity on the situation, Rob McNamara, a longtime confidante of Woods, released a statement explaining the withdrawal. McNamara confirmed that Woods had been experiencing flu-like symptoms and had a fever. As he walked and played, he started feeling dizzy. Doctors diagnosed him with a potential flu and dehydration. Woods received treatment with an IV bag and was said to be doing much better. McNamara emphasized that there were no physical issues with Woods’ back or ankle.

Gary Woodland, who played alongside Woods during the second round, expressed concern for his fellow golfer. Woodland noticed that Woods didn’t look right and seemed quieter than usual. He commended Woods for trying to fight through the illness and expressed his hope that he would recover soon.

On Saturday, Woods took to social media to confirm his withdrawal and provide an update on his condition. He revealed that he had influenza and was resting and feeling better. Woods expressed his disappointment at not being able to participate in the tournament and thanked Genesis USA and his fans for their support.

The news of Woods’ withdrawal due to illness has left fans concerned about his health. However, with his statement confirming that he is on the road to recovery, they can breathe a sigh of relief. As one of the greatest golfers of all time, Woods’ presence is always missed on the course. Golf enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting his return to competitive play and hoping for a swift recovery.
