Clément Noël is clearly in the lead in the Wengen slalom after the first run. Last year’s winner leads Henrik Kristoffersen and Marco Schwarz. Four Swiss make it into the top 12.
Noël created a cushion of around seven tenths the first pursuers. The Swiss did not rank in the front positions and must hope for an exploit in the second run to end the losing streak in Wengen slalom after 33 years. With three drivers in the top 8 and four in the top 12, they created a promising starting point in the battle for the podium.
Ramon Zenhaeuser and Alexis Pinturault are in 4th intermediate rank, 26 hundredths behind black. The podium is still within reach for Loïc Meillard. The man from Neuchâtel shares 6th place with the Norwegian Sebastian Foss-Solevaag. Third-best Swiss is Tanguy Nef, who advanced to number 8 with start number 23.
For Daniel Yule, the possible win hat trick came a long way off. The Valais, who won the last two slaloms, attacks from the 12th position in the afternoon. Sandro Simonet was seven places behind him.
The second run starts at 1:15 p.m. Last year, Noël had triumphed ahead of Manuel Feller and Marcel Hirscher. It was the first 22-year-old world champion to win the World Cup. The last Swiss slalom winner in Wengen is Joël Gaspoz (1987). The last Swiss Michael von Grünigen made it onto the podium in 1999.
