Three hundred protesters in protest against wind turbines

After several protests on the north and east side of the city, there was a protest on the southeast side of Amsterdam today. This time it was the residents of Weesp, Zuidoost, Diemen and Driemond who took action against the seventeen mega wind turbines that the municipality wants to place within the municipal boundaries. About 300 demonstrators walked different routes along search areas for wind turbines.

The action group Windalarm had organized three walks today, which lead along the so-called preferred areas for wind turbines. This concerns the locations Diemerbos, the Waternet location at Weesperkarspel, and the area at the Holendrecht junction. The residents are especially concerned about the possible health damage from the wind turbines.

“The resistance to the wind turbines is also only increasing”, says organizer Maarten Vlijmincx of Windalarm. “The worst part is that you can no longer place those wind turbines in the city at all. It comes on the outskirts of the city and then several municipalities have to deal with it. It is a hopeless way to put those things on land here so close to built-up areas. “

Concerns local residents

What is striking is that many preferred areas are on the outskirts of the city. The surrounding municipalities are also increasingly moving the windmills to the edge. This to the chagrin of the residents.

The allotment gardeners of Linnaeus and Frankendael also feel quite duped. Even the distance of 350 meters does not apply to them. They fear that the mill will be 50 meters away. “Here we are less than 50 meters from where the wind turbine is planned”, says allotment grower Ankie Koning. “We are unlucky here that the search area has stretched out over our allotment.”

Westerpark demonstration

On May 8, Windalarm organizes a large demonstration in the Westerpark, the theme of which is Wind to Sea.
