THIS WEEKEND STARTS THE XXVIII ANTIGUA MUSIC FESTIVAL OF ARANJUEZ – Ayuntamiento del Real Sitio and Villa de Aranjuez

FROM SEPTEMBER 19 TO OCTOBER 23

THIS WEEKEND STARTS THE XXVIII ARANJUEZ OLD MUSIC FESTIVAL

Nerea Gómez Barrasa, Second Deputy Mayor: “That Aranjuez breathes music is the objective that we have set ourselves in this Government Team: we work to promote tourism through a culture of quality that serves as a dynamic element of the local economy, boosting our commerce and hospitality”

Aranjuez, September 17, 2021

The Aranjuez Ancient Music Festival has developed since its inception, twenty-eight years ago, programs and activities that show the rich musical life that Aranjuez had and the importance and curiosity that its landscape aroused and the musical activities that were represented in it not only in Spain, but also many of the European courts.

This cultural legacy that the festival remembers and recovers every year and whose axes are music and landscape, understood as the urban planning of which the palace, its gardens, groves, orchards and the layout of the urban area are part, was declared in 2001 by UNESCO Cultural Landscape Heritage of Humanity.

Therefore, 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of this important declaration that marks and promotes the tourist, economic and cultural development of the city. And more than ever, the early music festival wants to show this historical past that is undoubtedly part of the better future of the city of Aranjuez.

Therefore, the festival returns to its founding objectives, developing the programs that have shaped its identity throughout these years:

.- Concerts in the Chapel of the Royal Palace and in the Patio de Caballos

.- Musical Walks through the Gardens of Aranjuez

.- Collaborations with the Strawberry Train

.- Boat trips and concerts on the Tagus River

.- Visits and concerts at the Carlos III Winery of the Cortijo de San Isidro

.- Guided visits to Patios and Corralas from the 18th century

.- Thematic visits to the Royal Palace

.- Recovery of the royal commissions premiered in Aranjuez

.- Meetings between musicians and the public

.- Family concerts

.- Recovery of traditions and festivals. (Like equestrian ballets)

.- Collaboration with restaurants and hotels

The 2021 project will begin next Sunday, September 19 and will take place until the end of October. In September, when autumn is gently approaching, activities will take place in the open air, in the gardens and in the Royal Palace’s horse yard. In October the activities are focused mainly on the Teatro Real Carlos III.

In this edition, some important musical events will be celebrated, such as the 300-year anniversary of the premiere of the Brandenburg Concerts, one of Johann Sebastian Bach’s masterpieces and the extension of the Beethoven Year commemoration in its 250th Anniversary that we celebrate thanks to collaboration with the Goethe Foundation.

Some of the main features of the 2021 edition will be: Music and Landscape, Musical walks through the Gardens of Aranjuez, collaborations with the Strawberry Train, Boat trips and concerts on the Tagus River, thematic visit to the Royal Palace, concerts in the Chapel of the Royal Palace and in the Patio de Caballos, concerts at the Teatro Real Carlos III, etc …

Also in this edition, the Festival will feature various Tourist Activities that will be carried out in collaboration with restaurants and hotels in the city, as well as with merchants in the downtown area.

Nerea Gómez Barrasa has commented that “within our ambition for Aranjuez to become the City of Music, we continue to bet one more year for a unique Festival in our country for its artistic quality and for developing in an exceptional environment such as our Cultural Landscape of Aranjuez ”.

The Delegate Councilor for Culture wanted to thank “To all the institutions involved in its organization for understanding that Aranjuez has to become a unique cultural focus in our country.” “Both the Community of Madrid and National Heritage -Nerea Gómez has continued– they share our objective, which highlights the importance of decentralizing culture and bringing it closer to exceptional environments like ours ”.

“From the City Council of Aranjuez, through the Delegation of Culture, we continue to offer quality cultural programming despite the great adversities that we have been suffering in recent times.” “Culture is the identity of Aranjuez and we will continue betting on it with all our efforts, as we have been doing since the beginning of the legislature”, Nerea Gómez Barrasa has concluded.
