This man’s scrotum can ‘whistle’, believed to be the world’s first case

Jakarta

A man in Ohio developed a super rare condition called ‘pneumoscrotum’ aka whistling scrotum. The testicles or scrotum may make a hissing sound as if they were whistling.

The case, which is experienced by a 72-year-old man, is believed to be the first case and was published in the American Journal of Case Reports.

Initially, the man came to the emergency room with shortness of breath and a swollen face. An X-ray examination revealed excess air in his body cavity, which caused his lung to collapse and could lead to permanent damage if left untreated.

Next, the doctors traced the source of the hissing sound that the patient complained of. It was found, the ‘whistle’ came from the hole left on the left side of the scrotum after surgery 5 weeks earlier. Some of the excess air gets trapped in this section and creates a hissing sound.

The patient was then taken to another hospital for further treatment. Luckily, his lungs improved and recovered after 3 days of hospitalization. The patient was finally able to go home in a better condition.
