Books – Ahmed Jumaa:

Dr. Rana Al-Hajjah, Director of Programs Management at the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, said that the vast majority of people with coronavirus recover fully without ever being re-infected due to an immunity against the disease.

“The argument” added at a press conference held by the organization today, Wednesday, that the clinical development of the disease is one of the important topics that the organization pursues with countries, and it has a large network of hundreds of thousands of cases and the development of symptoms on patients until recovery, and most cases fully recover from the disease.

She explained that from about two weeks the World Health Organization changed the criteria that depend on it to know the recovery of patients, which is the disappearance of symptoms after 10 days of infection, and that the last 3 days are asymptomatic and this is an indication of the patient’s recovery from the Corona virus.

The argument added: “We heard about the re-infection of some patients, but this is not certain for us so far, and the numbers that we have heard about a very small part of the cases.”

She said that the basis is that the majority of cases recover and the virus does not recur, and this is the scientific basis on which we rely to develop vaccines to counter Covid. If there is no immunity, we will not be able to develop vaccines.

But the director of the Global Health Programme’s director does not have a certainty of the time that immunity against the disease continues after recovery: “We have not received the information for sure and we follow up with the partners.”
