This is the great temple of light and sound that illuminates Christmas in the Plaza de San Francisco in Seville

The Plaza de San Francisco will have special lighting from this Thursday, December 8, in the afternoon starring a temple of light and sound with daily light and music shows and that is passable. The mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz, will participate in the opening ceremony, which will take place at 18:30, together with representatives of the companies that sponsor the city’s Christmas program and this unique lighting, the work of the Andalusian company Ximénez.

For the planning of the Christmas agenda, the Municipality had the patronage of the Seville Aquarium, Unicaja Foundation, Coca Cola, Quirón Salud, AEDAS Homes, Hábitat Inmobiliaria, Martín Casillas SLU, Sando, Metrovacesa, Grupo ABU Sevilla, El Corte Inglés , Sevilla Fashion Outlet, Ilerna FP and Sevilla City Office. These companies have wanted to collaborate with Christmas in Seville this 2022-2023, thus contributing to the city’s strategy to make Seville a point of reference in Southern Europe and Spain in the celebration of these dates.

“The singular lighting returns for another year, as is already a tradition and as a symbol of Christmas in Seville, in the Plaza de San Francisco, for which I want to thank once again the sponsors who gave it for their involvement and commitment to the city has made it possible, as well as facilitating its use by the public”, highlighted the mayor.

Specifically, the installation in the Plaza de San Francisco is conceived and developed exclusively for the city of Seville as a large Temple of Light that gives a nod to the city’s cathedral. Made of solid aluminum and carbon steel, it has a gold lacquered structure for a greater decorative effect during the day. The goal is that this temple of light is not only a pretense at night, but can be visited and decorative during the day. Its two domes are topped by two 2m high replicas of El Giraldillo.

Likewise, this structure – which has total dimensions of 30 meters long, 10 meters wide and 16 meters high – has a coating of LED pixel technology capable of reproducing light and sound shows and with approximately 70,000 points of light energy efficient LEDs

This special lighting will be on every day from 6.30pm to 11pm until 6th January. The show will be held every day with musical performances every half hour, from 7pm to 10.30pm. The duration of the show is 10 minutes and can be changed at specific times, for example during the Heraldo Real.

This unique lighting adds to the traditional one, which will have more squares and streets illuminated than ever (287), as in the case of the Christmas trees, which reach different districts of the city, such as Polígono Sur, Torreblanca, Cerro-Amate, Sevilla Este, Santa Justa, Los Remedios, Parqueflores or Bellavista, as well as the Christmas program for the city promoted by the City of Seville, together with private companies, companies and local creators -and in whose design the Habitat areas participated Urban and social cohesion, government, large festivals and metropolitan area, citizen participation, coordination of districts and digital transformation, young people, as well as the districts, which will fill its neighborhoods with activity and light until the day of the three kings with the slogan ‘This Christmas, Seville lights up’. Among the proposals studied, the cultural and leisure activities linked to Christmas in the various districts, aimed above all at children, will also have particular importance, for a total of over one hundred proposals.

To these must be added the traditional nativity scenes, the FIBES shows, the leisure activities for families and young people, the Christmas markets or the activities carried out in the Real Alcázar on these special dates, as well as the programs devised by other private bodies and organizations and institutions of the city, which have added their effort to offer a varied and broad cultural agenda throughout Christmas in the city.
