This is how the self-destruct feature works on WhatsApp – Multimedia

A touch of Snapchat in WhatsApp: Self-deleting messages are now part of the messenger’s repertoire.

This message is deleted by itself: Not a sentence from an agent film, but a new function in the popular WhatsApp messenger service. The fact that messages disappear after a certain period of time is nothing new in social networks – keyword Snapchat. However, this option has not yet been available in WhatsApp.

That is changing now. Anyone who brings the WhatsApp application up to date can now activate the automatic deletion of messages after seven days. To do this, tap on the name of the contact in the chat, tap on self-deleting messages and select “On”. In a group chat, only admins can activate or deactivate the self-deleting messages.

Deletion with restrictions

The feature cannot be turned on across the board, but must be selected individually for each chat. And: You shouldn’t rely on messages to disappear completely. If they are forwarded to someone else, or quoted within the chat, they remain there. Even images that have been sent that were automatically saved on the smartphone are not deleted from the device.
