In Belgium, only a few percent of the population have developed antibodies against the coronavirus. These antibodies are evidence that a person has been infected with Covid-19, whether the symptoms are visible or not.
In Ischgl, in the west of Austria, the percentage of inhabitants who have antibodies increases to… 42, according to a study published this week. This is the highest infection rate measured to date. How to explain it? Quite simply because the ski resort of Ischgl seems to have been one of the epidemic centers of the disease. Hundreds of tourists were present last March and the virus was easily able to circulate between different Austrian and foreign citizens.

According to our data, 40% of infections in Austria are due to the outbreak in Ischgl, ”explains Dorothee von Laer, who is behind this study.
For their study, the researchers looked for antibodies to Covid-19 in the blood taken from 1,473 inhabitants, or 79% of the residents of Ischgl, at the end of April. As a result, 42.4% of people had antibodies.
Justice examines whether the containment measures at the ski resort were sufficient and taken on time.
In Austria, the coronavirus killed 700 people.
