The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala (Minex) announced that Hugo Beteta will be appointed as the country’s next Ambassador to the United States, based in Washington, DC
The US government has already given its approval for the new official who will represent the country in the White House to take office. For now, the Secretariat of Social Communication of the Presidency stated that the formal appointment will be made in the coming days.
To that extent, he said that in Arévalo’s tour of the United States, the next ambassador had a strategic participation.

Within his career, the appointee has a doctorate in economics and is the Director of the Subregional Headquarters in Mexico of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), since August 2009.
In addition, he was Minister of Public Finance and head of the Planning and Programming Secretariat from 2004 to 2008, during the presidential term of Óscar Berger.
Likewise, he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the Rafael Landívar University and studied Economics for Development and Politics in a program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
