Third police officer in 5 days dies of coronavirus, reports Los Angeles Police Department – Telemundo 52

The third death of a Los Angeles Police Department employee in five days from the coronavirus and the eighth overall was announced Saturday.

Security Officer Dexter De Los Santos died Friday. He worked more than eight years in that position in the Division of Security Services, according to the department.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with your loved ones”, tweeted the Department. “Dexter, we appreciate your service.”

Sergeant. Patricia Guillén, who was assigned to the 77th Community Police Station in South Los Angeles, died Thursday. He worked for the department for almost 23 years.

“We joined LAPD in mourning the loss of Sgt. Patricia Guillén from @ LAPD77thSt, ”Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer tweeted. “We are thinking of his family, colleagues and community members in this sad time, and we honor their many, many years dedicated to keeping Los Angeles safe.”

Officer Philip Sudario, a 25-year veteran officer assigned to the Southeastern Community Police Station in South Los Angeles, died Monday.

Others LAPD employees who have died for COVID-19 complications are Sgt. Amelia “Terry” Martinez, 53, who died on January 12; Police Service Representative Raymond Guerrero, a 24-year veteran who died on January 7; Sergeant. Fred Cueto, a 22-year veteran who died in December; and unsworn detention officer Erica McAdoo, 39, and Officer Valentin Martinez, 45, who died in July.

“The impact of COVID-19 has been devastating for this department and this city,” said LAPD Chief Michel Moore.
