Emotion won over Géraldine Abreu, this Monday, March 7, 2022, a few minutes before the arrival of the fifteen Ukrainian refugees in Nogent-le-Phaye (Eure-et-Loir), near Chartres.
She came with Tyméo, her 15-year-old son, to the association hall to welcome these women and children who fled the Russian bombardments. Her husband left in a convoy for Paris, which takes the Ukrainian refugees to Nogent-le-Phaye.
The Abreu family, as 300 others in Eure-et-Loir, volunteered to receive, at her home and for an indefinite period, refugees from the war in Ukraine. “It’s a human adventure, thoughtful and that we will live as a family”, underlines Géraldine, the mother.
children’s idea
The daily life of this family from Nogent-le-Phaye will change, with the reception of six members ofa Ukrainian familyincluding two children.
The opening of the hearth ukrainian people is an idea submitted by the children of the couple Abreu, Tyméo, 15 years old and Louan, 17 years old. “They were following the conflict on television last weekend and they told us they wanted to help. In addition, Gérald Darmanin invited the French who wanted to host the Ukrainians to come forward, so we contacted the town hall, ”explains the mother of the family.
It is a great pride to see our children react with such maturity.
At 15, Tyméo believes that it was necessary to react and help the Ukrainians
A few minutes before the arrival of the Ukrainians, the family feels “no stress”. Géraldine continues: “we rather say to ourselves that we are going to be part of a page of history”.
For Tyméo, the youngest, helping the Ukrainian population quickly became obvious. “We ask ourselves a lot of questions and we say to ourselves that it can happen to us too, we had to react,” says the teenager.
Sharing home and living spaces
In order to be able to welcome these European citizens in the best conditions and offer them a certain comfort of life, the Abreu house has been slightly transformed. “We have made some rearrangements, our house is built in two parts, we are going to leave them one of the parts, everyone will have their bathroom, their bedroom. We will share the kitchen and the living room”.
We are aware that this is a commitment that will surely last several months. We have already seen some photos and we learn the birthday dates!
French and Ukrainian customs will meet
These next few months will remain engraved forever in the memory of this family from the Chartres conurbation, which also hopes, beyond the gesture of solidarity, to learn the ukrainian culture and share French customs with these refugees who have been marked, for less than two weeks, by the war in their country.
