“There is a flattening of the contagion curve” and a “more comfortable occupation of beds” in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, “said the Minister of Health of the Nation, Ginés González García, in statements to the press yesterday. He warned that “contagions are growing in the interior of the country due to social gatherings” and recommended “not to be neglected.”
“The entity that groups the clinics studied the large sanatoriums and they have 9% less occupation of therapy beds than in July 2019. This is a time of high demand for beds. Today we have a certain margin due to the enormous expansion that we have made, not only of the public but also of the private system, ”explained the Minister of Health.
However, González García’s observations are in contrast with the growing concern that has been simultaneously manifested by the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health. “We are going 180 kilometers per hour” and with this projection of cases “by the end of the month we could reach 90% of occupied therapy beds,” Enio García, the chief adviser of the provincial portfolio, warned yesterday (see separate box).
Meanwhile, yesterday 111 new deaths and another 4,557 positive cases of coronavirus were registered in Argentina, bringing the number of deaths to 5,814 and 299,126 infected since the start of the pandemic in the country. Of the last confirmed infections, 71% corresponds precisely to the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, as reported last night by the Ministry of Health of the Nation.
In this context, the health portfolio detailed that there are 1,749 interned in intensive care units, which represents a percentage of occupation of adult beds of 58.2% in the country and 67.6% in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area .
In their evening report on the situation of COVID in the country, the health authorities reported last night the death of 34 men (20 residents in the province of Buenos Aires; 8 in the City of Buenos Aires; 1 in the province of Chaco; 1 in the province of Entre Ríos; 1 in the province of Río Negro; 1 in the province of Santa Fe and 2 in the province of Salta) and 30 women (13 residents in the province of Buenos Aires; 11 in the City of Buenos Aires; 1 in the province of Entre Ríos; 1 in the province of Córdoba; 1 in the province of Mendoza; 1 in the province of Río Negro; and 2 in the province of Salta).
The morning report had already recorded the death of 21 men (11 residents in the province of Buenos Aires; 4 in the City of Buenos Aires; 3 in the province of Chaco; 1 in the province of Neuquén; 1 in the province of Río Negro. ; 1 in the province of Salta) and 26 women (15 residents in the province of Buenos Aires; 6 in the City of Buenos Aires; 3 in the province of Río Negro; 1 in the province of Salta and 1 in Tierra del Fuego.
Of the total number of confirmed cases so far in the country, 1,157 (0.4%) are imported, 76,226 (25.5%) are close contacts of confirmed cases, 180,483 (60.3%) are cases of community circulation and the the rest are under investigation.

71% of yesterday’s infections correspond to the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires

La Plata added two deaths from coronavirus yesterday, thus accumulating 90 since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the latest update of the Situation Room of the Ministry of Health of the Province of Buenos Aires. As for infections, 153 were registered in the last 24 hours and the total figure rises to 6,449. In addition, it was reported that those recovered are already 4,767 in the City.
For its part, the Municipality of Berisso yesterday reported 12 new infections of COVID, which adds up to 912. Of these, 273 are active, 616 recovered and 23 died.
Meanwhile, the Municipality of Ensenada reported 10 new cases of coronavirus for a total of 473. Of these, 144 are active, 322 were discharged and 7 died.
