Covid-19 First case confirmed in Finland, authorities dismiss alarmism

Finnish health authorities today confirmed the country’s first case of the new coronavirus, corresponding to a 32-year-old woman who arrived from China last week.

The woman was a tourist who had been in the Chinese region of Wuhan.

Arriving in Finland on Thursday, he was at a ski complex in the village of Saariselka, in the north of the country.

On Sunday she started to show symptoms and on Tuesday she went to a hospital, where she was diagnosed with Covid-19.

Currently, the patient is isolated in a hospital in Rovaniemi.

Lapland district health authorities are examining 15 people who may have had contact with the virus carrier.

The director of the Finnish Institute of Health, Mika Salminen, told local media that the risk of an epidemic in the country is low.

The provisional balance of the epidemic of the new coronavirus is more than 2,700 dead and more than 81,000 infected, according to data reported by more than 40 countries and territories.

Of the infected people, almost 30,000 recovered.

In addition to 2,717 deaths in China, where the outbreak began at the end of last year, there are fatalities in Iran, South Korea, Italy, Japan, the Philippines, France and Taiwan.
