The inhabitants of the community of San Lucas Tepemajalco, San Antonio la Isla, face problems with the poor organization of the market, the accumulation of garbage, insecurity and failures in the water supply.
The neighbors have expressed that the representatives of the flea market – which is held every Wednesday – do not have enough supervision over it.
“There are many problems of insecurity and garbage; on the part of the city council they are not going to review how they are putting the posts”, said Teresa Arévalo, an affected neighbor.
Although they have already presented their complaints to the person in charge of the market, Sonia Flores, they still have not obtained a solution.
“They do not listen; since they returned from the pandemic they have located that flea market there, but those from the presidency only send two people to collect the floor fee and they are not going to see how things are “.

Accumulation of garbage in the San Lucas tianguis Tepemajalco
Artisans and residents of San Lucas expressed that after the flea market there is a pile of garbage that the merchants leave on the poles; however, the garbage collection service happens every two or three days, so the neighbors themselves end up cleaning the streets.
“They already sent us the tianguis here, that’s why the street is dirty; managers charge, but do not sweep. Those from the tianguis leave and leave all the garbage accumulated in the corners, since many of them sell carnitas and barbecue; the dogs come and break the bags and it is a disaster”lamented Adán Castro, an affected artisan.
The accumulation of garbage causes diseases and a bad image, not only for the streets but for the municipality in general, the neighbors denounce.
Another problem derived from garbage is that, in the rainy season, it causes flooding.
car theft
Teresa, a resident of the neighborhood, commented that Stolen vehicles have been reported in the areabecause the owners must park them outside their houses very early so as not to be locked up by the market.
“They have to get their cars out at dawn, but then they are stolen here; Six cars have been stolen from here to the corner. Do you know what they use the police for? To walk taking care of the president”.
He mentions that, being a wood craftsman town, the streets should be clean and security.
“Who would like to go to a town that is dirty, where there is a lot of insecurity or where drugs are distributed at any time of the day?”
Although the presidency is two minutes away, security is nil.
Contaminated water
In recent days, the water supply in San Lucas Tepemajalco has presented failures. The neighbors express that the water that reaches them is contaminated; on many occasions it contains soil and soon turns green.
They think that The dirt can be caused by the lack of maintenance of the wells or by the filtration of toxic material that comes from the gravel and sand mines.located between Miguel Hidalgo and Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada in San Antonio la Isla, which have been converted into sanitary landfills.
The municipalities of Metepec, Toluca and San Antonio la Isla are the ones that take garbage to San Lucas. But, according to testimonies from neighbors, these mines are not ready to become a sanitary landfill.
“The name of the owner of the mines is Manjarrez and they are paying him to receive that garbage, but they do not have the infrastructure to be a sanitary landfill and that is why there are leaks into the drinking water” ,emphasized Lidia Cruz, an affected neighbor.
neighbours’ demands
According to Municipal Development Plan San Antonio la Isla 2019 and 2021the population asks for more public security with better prepared and trained elements, who carry out patrols at night, in streets and schools.
It also requires improvements in basic public services: drinking water, electricity, drainage and solid waste collection.
