When four units were running, the power plant burned an average of 120 wagons of brown coal a day. The shutdown of the power plant was welcomed by ecologists. According to the Arnik movement, the Prunéřov Power Plant emitted 4.5 million tons of greenhouse gases the year before, which was the second largest amount after the Počerady Power Plant.

Employees will move to other power plants. About a third of the 150 must remain until the operation is completely shut down and the space is secured.

After the blocks have cooled down, Prunéřov I. will start to be ecologically cleaned. Its owner, the semi-state company ČEZ, is already thinking about what to expect from the complex. The farthest is the project of a solar power plant, which would stand on the site of cooling towers that would go to the ground.

One of the variants is the construction of a steam-gas power plant, a conventional gas boiler room or a battery storage facility for the storage of produced electricity. A battery factory project is also being considered.

Some people in the area did not mind the power plant after desulphurisation, they got used to it. The cottagers from the local part of Prunéřov, which falls under the town of Kadaň, also appreciated the fact that they cannot see the chimneys despite the dense forest. The young people welcome the end of Prunéřov, they do not see burning coal as the future.
