The police editor of the “Vimas” and “Neon” newspapers, Vassilis Lambropoulos, made new revelations about the fraud that seems to have been set up by a priest and an ordained priest defaming citizens.
Vassilis Lambropoulos’ report states that according to the court documents in the case there were four to five businessmen who were mainly related to the financial sector and he had approached them through an accountant who was close to the particular priest.
The supposed metropolitan candidate seems to have said that in view of taking up his duties in the Diocese of Thessaloniki, they will participate in the management of the properties of the Diocese, in the management of finances, in procurement, in the meetings and in accounting matters.
As the police editor mentioned, when he was asked – according to the case file – what he wanted this money for, he completely falsely stated “I wanted to finance an associate of the archbishop”.
While another part, as mentioned by this particular priest, was spent in order to buy gifts for metropolitans, with the aim of “progressing” his election as metropolitan.
It should also be noted that one of the affected businessmen made some searches on the internet in relation to one of the intermediaries who helped in this fraud and as he states in the case file he led a particularly expensive life, which included traveling and meeting many people from Greek showbiz.
The case file also states that this particular archimandrite went to pharmacies and bought large quantities of cosmetics, in other supermarkets large quantities of cheese.
The timeline of the case
As the police found, the Archimandrite with the help of a deposed priest managed to obtain 1,347,000 euros from believers in Thessaloniki. They trapped 6 people since November 2018 and convinced them to give money allegedly to help the Archimandrite to be elected Metropolitan of Thessaloniki.
A total of 6 people are accused of the trap, who played the game of the 68-year-old Archimandrite. They convinced believers to pay money and promised them that after the elections for the election of a new Metropolitan in Thessaloniki, the money would not only be returned to them, but from now on, as they were told, they would also have a channel of communication directly with the hierarch.
