The new rail strike of the train drivers’ union GDL will again paralyze large parts of the train traffic in North Rhine-Westphalia from Monday (23 August) at 2 a.m. These routes should still be used.

Dusseldorf – Less than two weeks after the last major rail strike, the train drivers of the GDL union are again down. On Saturday afternoon (August 21), goods traffic will start on strike from 5 p.m. From Monday (23 August) at 2 a.m., passenger traffic will also follow. The next warning strike is scheduled for Wednesday (August 25) at 2 a.m. Travelers in North Rhine-Westphalia will also have to be prepared for numerous cancellations and delays in train services. Not only long-distance traffic is affected, but also regional and local traffic in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The key data of the rail strike at a glance:

  • Freight traffic: from Saturday (August 21), 5 p.m.
  • Passenger traffic: from Monday (23 August), 2 a.m.
  • End of the strike: Wednesday (August 25), 2 a.m.

Rail strike in NRW: These regional trains (RE and RB) are supposed to run anyway

In regional and local transport, the Deutsche Bahn offshoot DB Regio is severely affected. Several train lines there are completely canceled, others only run with restrictions. Only a few routes are to be served according to the regular timetable. Other railway companies in North Rhine-Westphalia, such as Keolis Deutschland (eurobahn), National Express, Abellio and Regiobahn, are not affected by the strike. The routes served by these providers should in principle run according to the regular timetable. However, there may also be short-term restrictions here as a result of the strike, as part of the DB Netz division, which is responsible for the rail infrastructure, is also to be on strike.
