Earlier, in a statement, the organization of the main category of motor racing had also distanced itself from the statements made by the Briton of 89 years. He said in an interview with CNN that black people are more often guilty of racism than white people.
The six-time world champion, 35, has publicly supported the “Black Lives Matter” movement. It has set up a committee to help motor sport attract more young people from black backgrounds.
“Damn, I don’t even know where to start,” said Hamilton, who found Ecclestone’s comments “ignorant and uneducated” to “point out exactly” what’s wrong.
“It starts at the top”
“It makes perfect sense now that nothing has been said or done to make our sport more diverse. Or to fight against the racist abuses that I have encountered in my career, “said the Briton on Instagram. “If someone who has run the sport for decades has such a lack of understanding of the deep-rooted problems that we black people face on a daily basis, how can we expect all those working under him to understand it. It starts at the top. ”
“These statements have no place in a society that seeks unity,” said Formula 1 leaders earlier. “We do not support Ecclestone’s statements in any way. We also emphasize that it has not played any role in our organization since 2017 ”.
Ecclestone also said that racism doesn’t exist at all in Formula 1. However, he praised Lewis Hamilton. The world champion opposes racism in several ways and wants blacks to play a bigger role in Formula 1. “What Hamilton does is great,” said Ecclestone.
