Kim Yo Jong issued the threat just hours after US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield spoke at an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council about the US to issue a proposed statement condemning North Korea’s banned missile launches and other destabilizing activities.
After the meeting, Thomas-Greenfield also read statements from 14 countries supporting actions to limit the progress of North Korea’s weapons program.
Kim Yo Jong, widely regarded as North Korea’s second most influential person after Kim Jong Un, slammed the United States for issuing what he called “disgusting joint statements with ordinary people like Britain, France, Australia, Japan and Korea of the South”.
Kim Yo Jong even described the United States as “a dog that barks in fear.” He said North Korea would view the US statements as an “arbitrary violation of sovereignty and a serious political provocation”.
“The United States should be aware that no matter how hard it tries to disarm (North Korea), it can never take away (North Korea’s) right to self-defense, and that the more determined it is to act, the more fatal it will face a security crisis.” “Kim Yo Jong said in a statement reported by North Korean state media.
