“There is Such a People” Parliamentary Group Discusses Financial Crisis and Judicial Reform with Maria Gabriel

There were no specifics, there were no deadlines, rather an understanding on their part that it is good to have specifics and deadlines, which is good. This was revealed by Toshko Yordanov, the chairman of the “There is such a people” parliamentary group, after the meeting with Maria Gabriel.

“I wouldn’t say that we are looking for similarity here. There are specific problems and rather we have similarities in the way they should be solved. The state’s financial situation is bad and it is clear that we have to be frank with the Bulgarian society and citizens, let’s explain to them how bad it is and that the measures that need to be taken may seem severe, but they are for a certain period of time so that the country can get out of this financial crisis,” Yordanov said.

“We are glad that their understandings are like a right-wing economic force. We think exactly the same way,” he explained. “Tackling and uncontrollable spending must be stopped if wages are to rise and people to be richer.”

“We expressed our satisfaction that after “three years of demonstrations by people in the streets” GERB saw through that measures should be taken for the chief prosecutor, but we also explained to them brutally clearly that replacing one person with another will not lead to a reform in the prosecutor’s office. The judicial reform is not only the prosecutor’s office,” he added.

“We presented our views and highlights, we heard them too. It’s normal to have new conversations, I don’t know how they will end. We will be practical and support things we think are right,” he believes.

He assured that it is not their goal to enter the government and that no one will receive unconditional support from them.

“Let’s be honest – they can form a government without us. This government is imaginary – they have good intentions, but they have no specifics. We will not repeat a mistake like the one with PP a second time.”

GERB joined in for a brief summary of today’s talks.

“I want to thank all the participants in today’s talks. The talks were constructive and not always easy. Problems, risks, opportunities, policies, political formulas were discussed. No ministry, positions, names were discussed”, assured Tomislav Donchev, who stated that he “moderately optimistic” about forming a government.
