Portuguesa Mota-Engil and partners Win Section I. China Railway Construction, a former partner of Grupo Higa, is left out in the technical evaluation.
The consortium headed by the Portuguese construction company Mota-Engil México was declared the winner of the contract for the construction of Section I of the Maya Train that goes from Palenque, Chiapas, to Escárcega, Campeche, and with which the execution of one of the most emblematic works of the current government will begin.
In the winning group participate China Communications Construction, Gavil Ingeniería, Eyasa and Grupo Cosh, whose offer amounts to almost 13 thousand 395 million pesos (mp), for a contract that includes the elaboration of the executive project, supply of materials and construction of platforms and railroad.
Along the way consortiums made up of emblematic companies remained, such as Operadora Cicsa, the richest businessman in Mexico. Carlos Slim, the Peninsular, subsidiary of Grupo Hermes by Carlos Hank Rhon, and Pinfra by David Peñaloza.
China Railway Construction was also ruled out, which in 2014 saw the project for the construction of the Mexico-Querétaro train canceled, due to its partnership with Grupo Higa, whose owner Juan Armando Hinojosa Cantú, a businessman close to President Enrique Peña Nieto and involved in the La casa scandal Blanca.
China Railway Construction and its regular partners Constructora y Edificadora GIA + A they were disqualified for considering that their proposal was “technically not solvent”.
