Cuba will host the Tropical and Travel Medicine Course – Radio Santa Cruz

Havana, Feb. 21.- In response to the needs of the growing itinerant population worldwide, the XIII Course of Tropical and Travel Medicine will be developed in this capital, aimed at doctors, nurses and other health professionals.

The event will take place from March 2 to 5 at the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK), a national center of reference for infectious diseases, which sponsors the appointment in coordination with the Medical Services of Maastricht, The Netherlands, and the participation of other health institutions in Havana.

Through conferences, round tables and practical activities in the forum, participants will deepen the main aspects related to this multidisciplinary medical specialty, the organizing committee announced.

The topics will focus on arbovirosis, hemorrhagic fevers, fungal diseases, acute respiratory infections; tuberculosis; cholera, typhoid fever, polio, and hepatitis

Likewise, participants will be updated on amebiasis, giardiasis, chagas, leshmania and malaria, and will learn about the STI / hiv control program in Cuba, the diagnosis and the management of patients.

The IPK is the National Reference Center for infectious diseases in Cuba and has been named a Collaborating Center of the Pan American Health Organization for the control and prevention of tuberculosis, as well as dengue and its vector.

This institution is reaffirmed as a center of excellence dedicated not only to parasitology and tropical medicine, but also to professional training in medical microbiology, infectology, epidemiology of communicable diseases and social research.

Tropical and travel medicine is a multidisciplinary medical specialty, which emerged in response to the needs of the growing itinerant population worldwide; and professionals dedicated to it consider and advise on health related to emigration, including the ability to travel and the risks to health itself.
