There are already 117 health workers in Santander infected with COVID-19

In a new report on the health status of medical personnel in Colombia, published by the INS, 117 infections were reported in this union in Santander.

According to the new bulletin of the Institute on COVID-19 in health personnel in Colombia, 100 workers were infected by work related to the development of their activities.

Another 16 professionals were infected outside their workplace and in one more the virus nexus has not been defined.

In eight days, 56 new infections were reported. It took Santander about five months to reach 60 cases in this important sector in the care of the pandemic, and only one week to reach 100.

In addition, the INS reported that, of the 117 positive patients, 13 belong to the Primary Data Generating Unit, Upgd, in charge of capturing the occurrence of events of interest in public health and generating useful and necessary information for the purposes of the Surveillance System in Public Health.

On June 19, according to INS reports, Santander had 18 confirmed cases of coronavirus in medical personnel. By July 17, a month later, that number rose to 31. In May, the department had only five positives in this population.

In the new report, the number of 7,010 health professionals infected in Colombia is confirmed. 467 are in isolation at home and 564 are asymptomatic.

The INS also reported that 6,498 members of the union have recovered. According to data from the Institute, of the 15,372 deaths that the country has due to coronavirus, 45 belonged to the health sector.
