The Xunta de Galicia has denied the project of the projected copper mine in Touro and O Pino. A project that had a generalized rejection in 45 municipalities from the surroundings of Santiago, the Deza region and the entire Arousa estuary.
The Platform against that mine maintains that it would have a very negative environmental impact, polluting the Ulla river and the Arousa estuary. And the Xunta confirmed these fears yesterday afternoon. The Conselleira Ángeles Vázquez assured that “the project did not pass the environmental reports, because it does not guarantee environmental sustainability”.
From the Platform of affected people the news was celebrated with great satisfaction, but they already warn that they will keep fighting, if the company presents another project. Isabel Garcia.
