Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The discovery of oil and gas treasures in the Andaman Working Area in the north of Aceh is good news for Indonesia. The reason is, Indonesia now has additional supplies to meet domestic energy needs.
Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Tutuka Ariadji, said the Andaman region could possibly be included in the area. giant discovery which has the potential to become the world’s largest discovery of oil and gas reserves. Especially if Repsol as the operator of the Andaman III Block repeats the success made by Premier Oil in Andaman II.
“The Andaman III block, right, by Repsol. If this is met, this could be a big discovery in the world. If we meet there, it will spread to Thailand because the direction there is so extraordinary if it exists,” he was quoted as saying, Sunday (7/8/ 2022).

Tutuka said the resource potential for the Andaman II Block itself averages around 6 Trillion Cubic Feet (TCF). He is also optimistic that the resource potential of the Andaman III Block will not be far from the potential of Andaman II.
“Now there is nothing big about this discovery. If he later finds a big one (Andaman). This is after drilling the Timpan (Andaman II) well, one day we will see the Rencong (Andaman III) well,” he said.
As is well known, the oil and gas treasure cannot be separated from the findings in the Andaman II area, off the coast of Aceh, which is operated by Premier Oil and in the Andaman III area by Repsol. In the Andaman II Block, Premier Oil discovered oil and gas reserves through the drilling of the Timpan-1 well with the potential for oil and gas resources reaching an average of around 6 Trillion Cubic Feet (TCF).
However, the potential of Andaman II is said to be greater. The reason is that the findings have only carried out drilling on one structure, while the Andaman II Block has 10 structures.
Head of SKK Migas Dwi Soetjipto hopes that the Andaman II Block will be a big find in the future, after the discovery of reserves in other structures. In addition, he also put his hopes in Andaman I and Andaman II.
“In Andaman II itself there are 10 structures, only one well has been found, of which an estimated reserve of 1.5 trillion cubic feet (TCF) is estimated,” he said.
According to Dwi, to get to the stage of the development plan or commonly called the Plan of Development (POD), at least Premier Oil needs to drill two more wells in the Andaman II Block.
