In large-format printing, which is given an associatively symbolic name, two supposedly opposite realities meet – the mundane grounded and the transcendental. In his work, Breže has made a resident of a typical block of flats an alien, thus asking the viewer the question of the possibility of interpreting the phenomena of life. At the same time, “Pļavnieki” emphasizes the young artist’s current clash of thoughts or interest in themes and images detached from reality, as well as the problems they have to face when looking for a new place to live.

Alexander Brezhnev (1994) is a graduate of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, has been participating in group exhibitions for several years, and is working with Subspatial.xyz with Armands Freibergs. In his practice, the artist is interested in games with the digital environment and three-dimensional abstractions, which are often contextually related to the aesthetics of the 1990s.

It has already been reported that the cycle of exhibitions “Weekly Discovery” takes place from July 20 to October 26, offering spectators to get acquainted with the works of Latvian generations of different generations every Monday. For fifteen weeks in a row, one of the walls of the large hangar will be dedicated to an art exhibition, drawing attention to the importance of contemporary visual art in the overall cultural dynamics and emphasizing the author’s ability to work with space, giving it an extra dimension. The word “discovery” in the title reflects both the celebration of the exhibition or the public discovery of the artist’s work, as well as the wider correlation between visual environment professionals, admirers and accidental discoverers.

The opening of Alexander Breže’s exhibition will take place on August 10 at 19.00.
