The Witcher 3 reaches record number of players on Steam after the release of the Netflix series – Gaming – News

– Online requires an abo
– The console has a shorter lifespan than ever before (see how fast upgrades are coming, both within the same gene and outside …)
– The console has a walled garden and so the purchase price of games is ALWAYS higher, there is simply less competition and publishers have more control.
– You use a PC for more purposes than gaming

So no … PC more expensive? Absolutely unmistakable nonsense. That kite only applies in exceptional situations. Go after it. You can easily throw a midrange GPU in an OEM box and then you already have a game PC that works just as well or better than a console. And that costs you, 250 euros? If you hang your 1080p TV on it, your FPS will rise through the roof with the current GPU range, 60-100 + FPS no problemo. Add a PSU for certainty and you are at 300-320. Good luck with one new ones console for that price (not the revised version discounted to the ground) ;)).

And then you grab your game keys anywhere on the internet for amounts between 1 and 10 euros, maybe 20 to 40 if you buy on release. Internet where you can use for free. Internet too, where large parties are tumbling over each other with free games thanks to competition. Purely on the free content of EGS, I can already move forward a few years … Not to mention mods and, for example, total conversions.

The only USP of the console is simply ‘convenience’. And convenience always has a price. It’s just that simple. That price translates into zero freedom of choice; ie walled garden, no modding, and a higher price tag the more you gamed. Everything else is, quite frankly, a bit cold or arises from ignorance about what can and may be on the PC.

There is a reason that the consoles have come to resemble the PC and that, for example, smartphones are also derived from it. This is because the PC is superior as a platform in all its facets. In terms of costs, new developments, offering a creative free port, options, economic efficiency … there is no USP for the console in that context, apart from ‘convenience’. A bit like the argument for a microwave meal. It is not really nice, but yes, we are lazy and / or busy enough.

Regarding your final paragraph. It is indeed about what is better, and in particular about what is better for us as a consumer, who should prefer a certain form of power and control in supply and demand. From that point of view, too, the PC is far superior, and I don’t think I need to explain why. As an individual you find it ‘not suitable for you’, that is allowed, but just acknowledge that you then choose something that primarily serves convenience. Nothing wrong with that either, but don’t confuse it with a degree of quality or possibilities; the PC is undeniably the only right platform in this regard.
