The VTC steal 30 daily services from taxi drivers in La Línea de la Concepción

Members of Izquierda Unida and Podemos La Línea have met with Alberto Gómez, president of the SCA Linense of Radio Taxi to collect the concerns of the sector in the municipality in relation to the illegal presence of Transport Vehicles with Driver (VTC) in the border with Gibraltar.

During the meeting it was revealed:

“That behind the new platforms such as Uber or Cabify, which they try to sell us as the modern transport system, the reality is that there are large companies that do not pay taxes in Spain, millions in losses for the taxi sector and precariousness for the drivers themselves of the VTC ».

The border with Gibraltar is the point where most taxi services are provided on La Línea

According to the president of Radio Taxi, “about 30 services are lost in favor of VTCs every day. Some of these services are contracted in advance, but many others are not contracted so they are carried out illegally.

The taxi fleet in La Línea is around 90 vehicles and they recall that “if the standard endorsed by the Supreme Court of one VTC license for every 30 taxis were met, only 3 VTC could operate in La Línea, which is not the case” .

At the request of Radio Taxi, Podemos and IU ask the Delegate Councilor for Citizen Security Bernardo Piña and the mayor of La Línea to take this problem into account, and intensify surveillance in the border area by the Local Police, to be possible with several fixed units guarding the area.

“The control of fraudulent services by the VTC requires an immediacy that is only possible with the police presence in the area.”

On the other hand, they consider that the City Council of La Línea must approve a municipal ordinance to regularize VTC services, as is being done in other cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants in the province of Cádiz,

“So that the coexistence of these two transport services is guaranteed and the taxi is not condemned to extinction or the hundreds of jobs of this group in the face of illegal competition from these companies.”
