A lot has changed with the timetable change – Freiburg

From Sunday onwards, new arrival and departure times for train lines in the region / concept for Breisgau-S-Bahn revised.

. This Sunday, December 13th, the timetable change in local and long-distance public transport will take place. The previous departure and arrival times are changing on many connections on trains and buses. In regional traffic, the cycle times change considerably. Deutsche Bahn also wants to start a new attempt to couple more trains on the east-west axis between Kaiserstuhl and the Black Forest, which was opened a year ago.

There is more winging again

According to information from the regional transport association RVF, the timetable concept for the east-west connection, the S1 S-Bahn line, was revised in order to ensure greater stability. There are two hourly connections between Kaiserstuhl and the Black Forest via Freiburg in both directions. One connection is continuous, the other requires a change. As previously only on Sundays and public holidays, trains to Freiburg in Gottenheim and Titisee are now to be merged and divided in the opposite direction on weekdays. This means that in Gottenheim the train coming from Endingen will arrive first, to which the train coming from Breisach will be coupled. In the opposite direction, the trains in Gottenheim are winged, i.e. separated again: the front part of the train continues towards Breisach, the rear towards Endingen. The same principle of coupling and wings is to be used in Titisee, where the railway line from the Hllental is divided into the branch towards Neustadt and Villingen and the Dreiseenbahn towards Seebrugg. Probably until December 20th, there will be replacement bus service on the Dreiseenbahn, as work is being done in the area of the railway line.

New cycle times
The travel times, if they have already been made public, change in some cases considerably. On the western branch of the S 1 line, for example, on weekdays the travel times of the trains between Breisach and Freiburg will be shifted by around a quarter of an hour compared to the previous times. In Freiburg main station, the trains now run at minutes 2 and 32 instead of usually at minutes 16 and 47 as before. This applies in the opposite direction for departure times in Breisach. In Gottenheim the trains from Freiburg arrive at minutes 14 and 44, from Breisach at minutes 13 and 43. In Gottenheim, the trains coming from Freiburg are split within two minutes, the rear part of the train goes to Endingen, the front to Breisach. It takes longer, around four minutes, to couple the trains at Gottenheim station in the opposite direction to Freiburg. The first thing to arrive here is the vehicle on branch line S 11 from Endingen, to which the train part coming from Breisach is coupled. In Freiburg, the coupled trains are supposed to arrive exactly every half and full hour. The timetables for the S 11 Endingen-Gottenheim Freiburg and the western part of the S 1 Breisach-Freiburg can already be found on the SWEG website. This also applies to the Offenburg-Freiburg section of the Rheintalbahn and the bus and train lines operated by SWEG itself, including the S 5 Riegel-Endingen-Breisach. The timetables are still to be set on the homepage of Deutsche Bahn and RVF.

Change now also in Littenweiler

In Hllental, two trains are to run in both directions every hour on weekdays. But there is only one connection per hour between Kaiserstuhl and the Black Forest. For every second connection you have to change in the direction of the Black Forest in Littenweiler, in the opposite direction, i.e. from the Black Forest to the Kaiserstuhl, you have to change at the main station. The transfer times of eleven to 14 minutes should leave enough buffer to catch any delays.
