According to the creators of the play, the dramatic material deals with six fundamental fears that everyone feels in different combinations from time to time – fear of poverty, criticism, ill health, losing someone’s love, age and death. The show “Family” looks at these fears through a middle-class family who have grown from the author’s own past experience, revealing to the bone what it means to be a family.

“The great thing about this material is that the painful and unpleasant topics are dealt with just like in life, through self-ironic, black humor. And reading the play, the initial laughter about the situation described by this particular family changed the feeling, though it would be enough for me. “It is the feeling when you look in a strange, dirty, dark mirror and suddenly see your picture,” says the director. Reinis Suhanovs.

The play was first staged in 2016 at the Broadway Theater. So far, it has received many nominations and awards, including the prestigious Tony Awards and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, continuing its winning streak around the world.
