The United States Officially Returns to the Paris Agreement | What’s up people

Washington, Feb 19 (EFE) .- The United States officially rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement this Friday, one of the commitments of the new US president, Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken reported.

“The Paris Agreement is an unprecedented framework for global action,” Blinken said in a statement.

“We know this because we help design it and make it a reality. Its purpose is simple and broad: to help us all avoid catastrophic global warming and build resilience around the world to the impacts of climate change that we are already seeing,” added the head of American diplomacy.

The United States returns to the international pact to stop global warming after it left during the government of Donald Trump (2017-2021), who showed his skepticism against climate change.

Blinken stressed that “addressing the real threats of climate change and listening to our scientists is at the center of our national and foreign policy priorities.”

“It is vital in our conversations on national security, migration, international health efforts and in our economic diplomacy and trade talks,” he said.

Shortly after assuming power on January 20, Biden announced that he will convene a Climate Summit for April 22, aimed at trying to coordinate measures and renew the effort for the transition to a more sustainable economy.

Washington was one of the original signatories of the great pact sealed in 2015 in the French capital, during the Barack Obama Administration (2009-2017), in which Biden was vice president.

The participation of the United States, the second largest emitter of greenhouse gases behind China, is considered by experts as fundamental to any attempt to curb global warming.
