Washington, Mar 4 (EFE) .- The United States reached 28,820,172 confirmed cases of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus this Thursday and 520,080 deaths from the covid-19 disease, according to the independent count from Johns Hopkins University.
This balance at 20.00 local time (01.00 GMT on Friday) is 1,016 more deaths than on Wednesday and 39,222 new infections.
California is now the worst-hit state by the pandemic with 53,214 deaths, followed by New York (48,049), Texas (44,755), Florida (31,387), Pennsylvania (24,208), New Jersey (23,491) and Illinois (22,902).
Other states with a large number of deaths are Georgia (17,750), Ohio (16,750), Michigan (16,589), Massachusetts (16,296) or Arizona (16,185).
In terms of infections, California has 3,583,470, followed by Texas with 2,682,004, third is Florida with 1,930,232, New York is fourth with 1,670,716 and Illinois is fifth with 1,193,177.
The provisional death toll -520,080- far exceeds the lower limit of the initial estimates of the White House, which projected in the best of cases between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths due to the pandemic.
