– The Meteorological Administration cited the US Geological Survey (USGS) that an earthquake of magnitude 7.9 occurred in a sea area of ​​526 km east of Noumea, New Caledonia, in the South Pacific at 10:19 pm (Korean time) on the 10th. The epicenter is 23.10 degrees south latitude and 171.50 degrees east longitude, and the depth of the earthquake is 33 km.

The Australian Meteorological Administration tweeted that a tsunami was confirmed, and warned that there could be a tsunami threat on the volcanic island Rod Howe Island, 550 km east of the main island of Australia. New Zealand’s National Emergency Management Agency is also urging residents of some northern coastal areas, including the Bay of Islands, to evacuate.

The U.S. tsunami warning system said that a tsunami warning has been in effect in U.S. Samoa and that there is a possibility of a tsunami occurring in other regions such as Vanuatu, Fiji and New Zealand.
