In the framework of the 44th session of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations, the Commissioner for the UN appointed by the National Assembly, Miguel Pizarro, explains that “In the two reports presented on Venezuela, new elements have been incorporated, in the first instance the concept of a democratic space that narrates the persecution, harassment and restrictions on civil and political rights, the judgments of the TSJ illegally designating a CNE and attacks on political parties, and in this second opportunity, mention is made of two fundamental pillars which are judicial independence and access to justice and the Orinoco Mining Arch ”.

“On this occasion, the report not only affirms, but also demonstrates the erosion of the rule of law in Venezuela, the absence of judicial independence, the non-existent access to justice for victims of human rights violations, and the exploitation of National wealth for the benefit of corruption, indigenous massacres and control of the south of the country under armed and criminal groups, ”said the deputy to the National Assembly, Miguel Pizarro.

In a report by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (Acnudh), he asked Venezuela to destroy criminal groups in the Mining Arc. Earlier, on Tuesday, July 14, in another document, the UN office also questions the independence of the Venezuelan Judiciary.

Regarding the mention of the Orinoco Mining Arc, Pizarro assured that until now, what has been happening in the south of our country had not been discussed or even narrated by the United Nations System, and he cites the UNHCR report: “Much of the mining activity, both inside and outside the Mining Arc, is controlled by organized criminal groups, it is these who decide who enters or leaves the mining areas, impose rules, apply cruel physical punishment to those who break said rules” .

Pizarro concluded the press conference, assuring that what was mentioned in the UNHCR report is an important advance: “Today it is not only the National NGOs, the defenders of Human Rights, nor the families of the victims who detail what is happening, today is the National United System that evidences extrajudicial executions, torture and cruel treatment, mining, the massacre of indigenous people and the violation of women and children in Venezuela. ”
