The Ukrainian army acknowledged its retreat from Soledar

Ukrainian forces have retreated from the town of Soledar. This was confirmed by an army spokesman quoted by “France Presse”.

The confession comes two weeks after Moscow announced it had captured the key city. Moscow announced it had taken control of it on January 12, but initially the Ukrainian army denied that it had suffered a defeat.

“After months of heavy fighting, including in recent weeks, the armed forces of Ukraine have left Soledar and retreated to the outskirts to pre-prepared positions,” said the spokesman of the Eastern Military Group of Kyiv Serhiy Cherevaty. However, he did not reveal when this happened.

As of now Soledar is under the control of Donetsk People’s Republicwhich Russia declared as its territory in September last year.
